On a serious note, yesterday I explored an abandoned beach resort, known as the Mariners Cliffside Beach Resort. The place has been shut down for years, and I haven’t been able to find out how or why it happened. I assume it went down with the economy a few years back.

It’s amazing how the earth just swallows up our human constructions when we let them be. Another few years unattended and I’m sure this old resort will be almost completely unrecognizable.

It was a great experience to wander around the place and get some photos, although there was a distinctly creepy feel to it, especially considering that just a few years ago it was beautiful, well-kept, and teeming with tourists.

Hopefully one day someone decides to fix it up. It has a lot of potential and is in a great location.

The Mariner’s lease is presently controlled by the Canadian mafia. We think there is some kind of money-laundering scam going on. Why else would this beautiful property be left to deteriorate.

You have a great sense of humor. Thanks for the post.

When I read “Canadian mafia” I laughed…still not sure if there actually IS such a thing as the Canadian mafia lol

Thanks for reading! I agree, it’s a real shame that this hasn’t been fixed up. Really beautiful spot, and you can walk straight down the beach to some great bars and restaurants. If I had the money and the gumption, I’d fix it up myself!

The Canadian Mafia is no joke. Mariners closed after being hit by two hurricanes in the 1990 s . The mob got ahold of the 99 year lease and have done very little to protect the property . They tried to put the Swim with the Dolfins business there about 4 years ago and the property owner Sir Emille Gumbs let it be known who had the lease now. That put a stop to that idea. All it needs is a developer with vision to create a wonderful resort.

Remember fondly staying at the Mariners in the 80’s. What a great location. Such a shame how it has
fallen. A developer has to come along…..One of the nicest beaches on the island….

Do you by chance have any photos of the old resort you could share? I’d LOVE to see them!
